FAQ

Q. Do I get a work out?

A. Your muscles get a rest, your brain does the work.

Q. Why should I do Feldenkrais?

A. You shouldn’t do anything. Do it only if you are curious, if you have some type of chronic pain and think it can help you with, if you are looking for a new way of viewing yourself, if you are interested in knowing yourself more profoundly, if you wish to give yourself a weekly gift, if you want to try something new, if you want to increase your flexibility, your endurance, your awareness of self, your concentration, your ability to adapt to various situations, and the list goes on. I think Feldenkrais is utterly awesome, and wish that everyone gets an experience of it!

Q. Who is Feldenkrais for?

A. Feldenkrais is for athletes, dancers, people standing, lifting, sitting all day. It is good for people recovering from injury, surgery, and strokes. It helps people with movement impairments, chronic pain, children dealing with movement disorders, people with neurological disorders (MS, Parkinson’s.) It is effective for people with insomnia, as well as with somatic manifestations of emotional issues.

Q. Is Feldenkrais similar to Pilates or Yoga?

A. No, it is a different perspective of the body. It supports movement of all sorts.

Q. Can Feldenkrais be considered therapeutic?

A. Yes, educationally. We do not try to heal, rather to teach the brain. This allows better organization that results in more refined, comfortable movement.

Q. Does Feldenkrais increase my flexibility?

A. Yes but it does it without stretching.

Q.How often do I need to do Feldenkrais to discover its benefits?

A. It is not necessarily the frequency with which you take classes but the consistency you show. Decide how often you can realistically come to class and commit to it for at least 2 months. The goal is to integrate new easier ways of moving to all your activities.

Q. What should I wear to class?

A. You can come wearing anything as long as it is comfortable. Loose fitting or athletic, your preference.

Q. I am pregnant. Can I do Feldenkrais?

A. Yes – you will be surprised by how much your body can move. The work will make more room for you and your baby. It is excellent preparation for child birth.

Q. am i too old to do Feldenkrais?

A. NO! Feldenkrais is perfect for you. It will keep your body in motion, improve your balance and flexibility without pain.
